The American Psychological Association has published a helpful list of things that family members can do if they suspect a loved one may be struggling with a mental illness.

Mental illness may be situational and temporary (e.g., during a global pandemic), or acute but passing, or it may be chronic and manageable. What counts is knowing the signs of possible illness needing care, and knowing ways to be poised to support and find care. This article is a great start.
