Our Jewish sisters and brothers are recognizing the issue of child sexual abuse and developing child protection measures. One leader is Sacred Spaces, founded by Shira Berkovits. Ph.D., JD, who is a behavioral psychologist and attorney. Sacred Spaces is a national non-profit organization that provides Jewish institutions with professional services necessary to develop robust policies and training to prevent opportunities for abuse and to guide Jewish institutions responsibly should abuse occur. This white paper is Dr. Berkovits’s observations of what can be learned from Christian programs, naming ten principles that shed light on the strength of the current U.S. Catholic Church program. It is an adaption of an article originally published in the JOFA Journal Fall 2015/Winter 2016 Edition, available here.
