Fear or Phobia?

Anxiety and fear aren’t exactly the same thing. Phobia and fear are quite different. Knowing the difference can help all of us name the need beneath our reactions. That’s a great way to restore peace and recovery.

Tanya J. Peterson, recently wrote an excellent article, Fear vs. Phobia: When Our Warning Center Goes Haywire, for the Healthy Place blog (March 25, 2021). Peterson is the author of numerous anxiety self-help books, including The Morning Magic 5-Minute Journal, The Mindful Path Through Anxiety, 101 Ways to Help Stop Anxiety, and The 5-Minute Anxiety Relief journal. (If you suffer with anxiety, she is a particularly helpful author.)

Peterson walks through the nature of anxiety (and phobias born out of anxiety) and the nature of healthful fear. She shows how they can be related – and how they are very different. Find great coping tips as well as a video on how to make sure anxiety doesn’t keep you from living your life.
